Indian nationals Prashant Gajera and Dharaben Bavadiya were convicted after pleading guilty in a PayPal fraud scheme that targeted elderly people in Arkansas. Police set up a sting in which the pair showed up expecting to collect nearly $30,000 from what they believed was a victim. Instead they walked into an undercover operation. Court records and local reporting note that Bavadiya had only been in the United States for roughly two weeks when she was arrested. Both pleaded guilty to felony charges including theft of property and related counts. Both received five-year suspended prison sentences. They arrived, quickly got involved in a scam designed to steal from seniors, and walked away with suspended time. ICE and the State Department should take a hard look at cases like this. When people come to the United States and immediately target its most vulnerable citizens, the response should be removal, not a suspended sentence. #Immigration #Fraud

Age or appearance alone cannot establish whether someone legitimately needs assistance.
