Updated on: 28 Apr 2015, 2:02 am 2 min read THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Targeting children aged between six and 16, certain organisations in the state are indulged in huge financial fraud by spreading false messages of stimulating the mid-brain and invoking the sixth sense through certain courses. For this purpose, they misuse magic, which is solely an entertainment art, noted magician Gopinath Muthukad told a press meet here on Monday. Muthukad said that he came to know about the issue after being invited for the inauguration of the new branch of an academy here claiming to empower mid brain through music, as a result of which the person would be able to sense details such as the colour or number of a surface if rubbed over the skin. “One example they put forward was flip reading. In this, the book need not be read by the person who had received the mid-brain stimulation training and instead he/she needs to just leaf through the pages. Likewise, they also claimed a book can be read by holding it behind the head. Most of the persons making these claims are bringing their own children to demonstrate. But to master the talent, they suggest children to practise it besides attending the training” he said. To support the argument, he said that the blindfolding masks, even the most advanced of them, are capable to allow vision from below even though you would not be able to see anything straight, along with voice clippings of the conversation with the people who met him for the inauguration of the mid-brain stimulation academy. According to him, this voice clippings are where the trainers cash in on for reading after blindfolding. Balu Kiriyath, film director and Vyloppili Samskrithi Bhavan member-secretary, who was present at the press meet said monetary fraud worth crores of rupees is happening behind this business in India. “A friend of mine spoke to me about this business, which requires an investment of `3 lakh for a kit and another `3 lakh for training in Indonesia. After training, for a two-day class, they charge a sum of `25,000 per child. Wide campaigning is being carried out by these trainers in schools particularly to attract parents to add their children and to convince them that the child could score well in the examinations if trained this way,” he said. Clinical psychologist Madhujan said that he could place a challenge to see if the trainers could prove that mid-brain stimulation was happening as claimed. If proved right, many brain-related disorders such as cerebral palsy could be cured. Muthukad wrote to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to prevent such malpractices from happening in society, with the assistance of police and take action to book them.
