The Indian Overseas Congress USA (IOCUSA) staged a peaceful demonstration in the heart of Times Square, New York, expressing its unwavering solidarity with the students of India and reaffirming its commitment to the principles of democracy, justice, and constitutional freedoms.
While acknowledging that the students have achieved significant progress on their immediate demands, IOCUSA emphasized that the protest was also intended to voice its continuing concern over what it described as the erosion of democratic norms in India. The organization expressed particular concern over the reported use of force against peacefully protesting students at Jantar Mantar, arguing that the response raised broader questions about the protection of civil liberties and the right to peaceful dissent.
Addressing the media, Mr. George Abraham, Vice Chairman of IOCUSA, congratulated the students on their determination and described their movement as a watershed moment in contemporary Indian politics.

"Today, as we gather in Times Square, New York, we congratulate the students of Delhi for standing firm in defense of justice, fairness, and democratic values. Whatever the immediate political consequences, they have reminded the nation that the voice of ordinary citizens, especially its youth, cannot be ignored forever.
For years, many believed that political narratives had become so carefully crafted and so tightly controlled that dissent could be marginalized and critics silenced. Yet these students demonstrated that no image, however powerful, is beyond public scrutiny when people unite around a just cause. They shifted the national conversation from personalities to principles, from power to accountability.

Their movement was not about ideology. It was about the right of every young Indian to believe that hard work, merit, and honesty still matter. It was about protecting the dreams of millions of students and honoring the sacrifices of parents who have invested everything in their children's future.
The events of these past days may well mark a paradigm shift in Indian politics. They remind every government that authority ultimately derives from the people and that legitimacy is only strengthened not weakened, when leaders listen to those who question, criticize, and demand justice.

The students have shown extraordinary courage. They have reminded us that democracy is not sustained by governments alone; it is sustained by citizens who refuse to surrender their conscience. They have brought political power down from the ivory tower and returned the focus to the everyday struggles and aspirations of ordinary Indians.
History teaches us that no government can indefinitely suppress the aspirations of its youth. Every democracy is renewed when a new generation insists that justice, transparency, and accountability are not privileges to be granted, but rights to be protected.
