Mr. K. G. Mathai (Babu), age 95, of Kizakathalakal House, Edathua, Kerala, passed away on April 29, 2026. Mr. Babu spent his final years living with his son, Jaideep Mathai, in Fairfax, Virginia.

Mr. Babu was among the first batch of officers and staff in the coke oven section of Bhilai Steel Plant, established in 1955 in Madhya Pradesh, India. After completing his officer training in Kyiv and Moscow in the former Soviet Union, he began his distinguished career at BSP. He retired from BSP in 1985 and later immigrated to the United States with his wife and son. There, he worked various jobs to support his family before retiring a second time in 1998 as a proud member of Culinary Workers Local 226.

Mr. Babu was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Prasad and Sandeep; and his sisters, Annamma and Aleyamma. He is survived by his beloved wife, Leena Mathai; his son, Jaideep Mathai; his daughter-in-law, Reny Simon; his grandchildren, Leena, Lisa, and Matthew; and his sisters, Saramma and Esther.
