ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റൺ: അമേരിക്കയിൽ, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റനിൽ ക്നാനായ സമുദായത്തിന്റെ വളർച്ചക്കു വലിയ സംഭാവനകളർപ്പിച്ച ഫാ. ജോസഫ് മണപ്പുറം (81) അന്തരിച്ചു.

ഒളശ്ശ മണപ്പുറം  പരേതരായ ഉതുപ്പാന്‍ പുന്നന്റെയും എലിക്കുട്ടിയുടെയും പുത്രനാണ്.

ഫാ. ജോസഫ് മണപ്പുറത്തിനെ  1998 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 1-ന് ഗാൽവെസ്റ്റൺ-ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റൺ രൂപതയുടെ ബിഷപ്പ്,  ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റണിലെ ക്നാനായ കാത്തലിക് മിഷന്റെ ഡയറക്ടറായി നിയമിച്ചു. ഷിക്കാഗോ  സെന്റ് തോമസ് സീറോ-മലബാർ കത്തോലിക്കാ രൂപത  സ്ഥാപിതമായതിനുശേഷം, മാർ ജേക്കബ് അങ്ങാടിയത്ത് 2003 ഒക്ടോബർ 29-ന് ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റണിലെ ക്നാനായ കാത്തലിക് മിഷനെയും, യുഎസ്എയിലെ മറ്റ് ഒമ്പത് ക്നാനായ കാത്തലിക് മിഷനുകളെയും ഷിക്കാഗോയിലെ സെന്റ് തോമസ് രൂപതയുടെ മിഷനായി ഔദ്യോഗികമായി അംഗീകരിച്ചു.   2007 വരെ അദ്ദേഹം ആ സ്ഥാനത്തു തുടർന്നു

ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റണിലെ ക്നാനായ കാത്തലിക് മിഷന്റെ ഡയറക്ടറായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിക്കുമ്പോൾ തന്നെ  പ്രാദേശിക ലാറ്റിൻ ബിഷപ്പ് 1998 സെപ്റ്റംബറിൽ ഡാളസിലെ ക്നാനായ കാത്തലിക് മിഷന്റെ ഡയറക്ടറായും    നിയമിച്ചു.  

1944 നവംബർ 30 ന് ജനിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം  ഏഴ് മക്കളിൽ മൂത്തയാളാണ്.  (1 സഹോദരനും 5 സഹോദരിമാരും). ഹൈസ്കൂൾ പഠനത്തിനുശേഷം  സെമിനാരിയിൽ ചേർന്നു. 1969 ഡിസംബർ 18 ന് പട്ടത്വം സ്വീകരിച്ചു.

സഹോദരി സ്പോൺസർ ചെയ്തു,   1987 മെയ് 12 ന് അമേരിക്കയിൽ എത്തി.  വിവിധ പള്ളികളിൽ സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു. 1998 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 1 ന് ആർച്ച് ബിഷപ്പ് ജോസഫ് എ ഫിയോറെൻസ   ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റണിലെ ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്നാനായ കാത്തലിക് മിഷനിലേക്ക് നിയമിച്ചു. ആദ്യം സെന്റ് തോമസ് മോറിലും പിന്നീട് ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റണിലെ സെന്റ് ആൽബർട്ട് പള്ളിയിലും താമസിച്ചു.

2007 ജനുവരിയിൽ, ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റൺ അതിരൂപതയിൽ സേവനമാരംഭിച്ചു.

Letter from Father Joseph:

My Dear brothers & sisters in Jesus Christ,

When I reflect on my 50 years as a priest and think of my ordination, what comes to my mind more than anything else, is a sense of gratitude to God for to the call to priesthood and for the grace to pursue that call and persevere in it. The extraordinary joy of being ordained, being configured in a unique, sacramental way to Christ is a gift for which I shall be ever thankful.
A few years ago, the late St. Pope John Paul II, on the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood wrote a book entitled “Gift and Mystery”. In this book, he explained that it is through the priesthood that we have the Eucharist. And in the celebration of the Eucharist we have the sacramental re-presentation of the death of our Lord Jesus Christ and its fulfillment in His glorious Resurrection.
Priesthood, from the time of the Apostles at the Last Supper, is both gift and mystery. It is a gift of Christ’s Sacred Heart. It is a mystery of faith, which requires of us acceptance of Jesus Christ and of His freedom to call the men whom He chooses to share His Priesthood and to act in His name. Those whom He chooses have no motive to boast; rather they receive the grace to fulfill their office faithfully but this also requires effort, sacrifice and love. I vividly remember the words of Msgr. Matthew, my uncle: “Nobody is worthy to become a Priest, so daily you pray that you may become less unworthy”
Something of myself: I was born in India on the 30th of November 1944 I am the oldest of seven children (1 brother and 5 sisters) After my high school studies I joined the seminary and studied nine years and was Ordained on 18th December 1969. My sister sponsored me and thus I came to USA on the 12 May, 1987. After renewing my visa for 11 years, according to the request of my Bishop from India I was appointed to the Indian Knanaya Catholic Mission, Houston, by Archbishop Joseph A Fiorenza on September 1st 1998, first residing in St. Thomas More and then in St. Albert Church, Houston. In January 2007 Cardinal Daniel Di Nardo was gracious enough to receive me for working in this Archdiocese, as associate pastor first in St. James the Apostle, Spring and then in this beautiful Parish. Several years ago I became US Citizen and has been incardinated to this Archdiocese.
Dear friends, now may I share with you the main message of this letter: to thank you for your love, friendship, concern, support, encouragement, prayers and gifts given to me for my birthday, Ordination Golden Jubiliee, Christmas and New Year. As one psychologist said, the people whom I loved and the people who loved me, made me what I am today. So I most sincerely thank you for what you are to me. I would like to express my brotherly thanks to Fr. Philip Wilhite, the renowned Pastor of this Parish. We have been living together for 15 years (in St. Albert, Houston and here in Sacred Heart) and I am very happy to share with you that he is one of the best priests I have ever met in the USA. He doesn’t make sound, very quiet, humble, intelligent, smart and fully endowed with pastoral mind. The ParishLife Center and the recently built beautiful Church are living monuments of his pastoral foresight. I do express my heartfelt gratitude to him for his fraternity, love and friendship. I do thank Fr. Emmanuel and all the staff, past and present members of various ministries and associations of our parish. I am also grateful to the principal, staff and the children of our Sacred HeartSchool and those who have worked to make the reception elegant and grand. In addition, the Blessing prayer song offered by all the priests, deacons and the people after the homily of Fr. Philip has been very touching and heartfelt, many people remarked.
May I wish you a blessed Christmas & a Prosperous New Year with a grateful heart.
