ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്കില്‍ ഹൈന്ദവ പുരോഹിതന്‌ നേരെ ആക്രമണം; അക്രമി അറസ്റ്റില്‍

ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്ക്: ക്വീന്‍സിലെ ഗ്ലെന്‍ ഓക്‌സില്‍ ഹിന്ദു പുരോഹിതന് നേരെ ആക്രമണം. ഗ്ലെന്‍ ഓക്സിലെ ശിവ്ശക്തി പീഠത്തിലെ സ്വാമി ഹരീഷ് ചന്ദര്‍ പുരിയാണു വ്യാഴാഴ്ച രാവിലെ 11 മണിക്ക് ആക്രമിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്.

അക്രമി സെര്‍ജിയോ ഗൗവെയെ (52) പോലീസ് അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു. ആക്രമണം, ശല്യപ്പെടുത്തല്‍, കുറ്റകരമായി ആയുധം കൈവശം വയ്ക്കല്‍ എന്നീ വകുപ്പുകള്‍ പ്രകാരം കേസ് എടുത്തു.

'ഇത് എന്റെ അയല്‍ പ്രദേശമാണു' തുടങ്ങിയ പരാമര്‍ശങ്ങളുമായാനു അയാള്‍ കാഷായ വസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ച സ്വാമിയെ ആക്രമിച്ചത്

പുരോഹിതനെ അപായപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ മനപ്പൂര്‍വ്വമായി ശ്രമിച്ചതാകാമെന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ സ്ഥിരമായി ദര്‍ശനം നടത്തുന്ന ചിലര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു സമീപത്തുകൂടി നടക്കുമ്പോള്‍ തന്റെ പുറകിലൂടെ വന്നയാള്‍ തന്നെ തുടര്‍ച്ചയായി മര്‍ദ്ദിച്ചുവെന്ന് സ്വാമി പറഞ്ഞു

സ്വാമിയെ ഉടന്‍ ആശുപത്രിയിലെത്തിച്ചു. സ്വാമിയുടെ ശരീരത്തില്‍ മുറിവുകളും ചതവുകളുമേറ്റിട്ടുണ്ട്. മുഖത്തും മുറിവുകളേറ്റിട്ടുണ്ട്. വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച അദ്ധേഹത്തെ ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ നിന്നു ഡിസ്ചാര്‍ജ് ചെയ്ത്. അക്രമിക്കു വേണ്ടി പ്രാര്‍ഥിക്കുന്നതായി സ്വാമി പറഞ്ഞു.

ഇന്ത്യാക്കാര്‍ തിങ്ങി താമസിക്കുന്ന ക്വീന്‍സില്‍ ഇത്തരമൊരു സംഭവം ആശങ്കയായി

മര്‍ദിക്കുകയും കുട പോലെ ഒരു വസ്തു കൊണ്ട് കുത്തുകയുമായിരുന്നു എന്ന് സി.എന്‍.എന്‍. റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്തു.

ഹെയിറ്റ് ക്രൈം ഒന്നുമില്ലെന്നാണു ഇപ്പോള്‍ പോലീസിന്റെ നിലപാട്. അക്രമിയുടെ അയല്‍ പ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ കൂടി നടക്കുന്നതു സംബന്ധിച്ച തര്‍ക്കമാണു ആക്രമണത്തിനു കാരണമെന്നു പോലീസ് വക്താവു പറയുന്നു. (അയല്‍ പ്രദേശം എന്നതു കൊണ്ട് എന്താണ് ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നതെന്നു വ്യക്തമല്ല)

അമേരിക്കയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വൈവിധ്യമാര്‍ന്ന ക്വീന്‍സ് കൗണ്ടിയില്‍ ഇത്തരമൊരു സംഭവം നടന്നത് തങ്ങളെ ഞെട്ടിച്ചുവെന്ന് പുരോഗമന ചിന്താഗതിക്കാരായ ഹുന്ദുക്കളുടെ സംഘടന സാധന പത്രക്കുറിപ്പില്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

ഇത് ഹെയ്റ്റ് ക്രൈം ആയി ചാര്‍ജ് ചെയ്യണമെന്നു ന്യു യോര്‍ക്ക് പോലീസിനൊടു അഭ്യര്‍ഥിക്കുന്നു.

Hindu priest brutally attacked near Queens temple

GLEN OAKS, Queens — Just one day after being released from the hospital, Hindu priest, Swami Ji Harish Chander Puri shows PIX11’s Jennifer Bisram his bruises and abrasions all over his body, including his face.

“I’m in a little pain,” he said from a bed at his temple Friday night.

He said around 11 a.m. Thursday, near the Shiv Shakti Peeth in Glen Oaks, while he was walking down the street in his religious garb, a man came up from behind and started hitting him, repeatedly. He was beaten so badly, he had to be rushed to the hospital.

Police arrested 52-year old Sergio Gouveia in connection to the attack. He’s being charged with assault, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon. Police say they're looking into whether this is a potential hate crime.

People who attend the house of worship say they believe he was targeted, adding his attacker screamed things like, “this is my neighborhood,” during the incident.

“He’s wearing his religious clothes just walking around the block,” said worshipper Sanjeev Jindal.

“The fact that was dressed religious wear def made him stick out,” said another worshipper Radha Bakshi.

This comes after President Trump took to twitter this week to target four democratic congresswomen including Minnesota's Ilhan Omar, a Somali-born US citizen, prompting send her back chants from thousands at a rally in North Carolina days later.

"We are concerned since yesterday what is going on in our neighborhood,” said Jindal.

Back in Queens Friday night, the man of faith who's loved by his community is healing and still smiling. He says he will be praying for the man who attacked him.

"Sometimes people have no control,” he said.

"I hope we could all come together in some way,” added Bakshi.

Sadhana Calls On NYPD to Investigate Attack of Swami Harish Chander Puri as a Hate Crime

Bigotry and xenophobia does not distinguish between Hindus and Muslims, or black or brown skin. When the US President targets immigrants and refugees and encourages chants of "send her back" at rallies, this results in real harm inflicted on our communities.

We are deeply heartbroken by reports of a brutal attack on Swami Harish Chander Puri Ji, priest of the Shiv Shakti Peeth temple in Glen Oaks, Queens, NY. Swami Puri Ji was attacked on Thursday at 11am by a man who reportedly screamed "this is my neighborhood." Just a few weeks ago, Queens was declared the nation’s most diverse large county according to a new study of 2017 census data. It is deplorable that in a place as diverse as Queens, such an atrocity can occur.

Thankfully, Swami Puri Ji is recovering, and is praying for the man who attacked him. We stand with this compassionate warm-hearted leader and the Shiv Shakti Peeth community, and invite all of our interfaith and community allies in the Queens / New York City area to do so as well.

We, Sadhana: Coalition of Progressive Hindus, and the undersigned community partners and faith leaders, call upon the New York Police Department to conduct a swift investigation of this brutal attack against such a loving leader. The remarks uttered by Swami Puri Ji’s attacker are a blatant example of hate speech. Thus, we urge the NYPD to investigate this matter as a hate crime.

May justice be served, and may love prevail over this hate we are seeing here and all over the country. We all belong here!

I am not a religious person because I studied almost all religions and cults of the Globe. I like to see all religions wither away to trash. But; it is barbaric to attack any religious person. If a religious person is not attacking you; leave them alone. Let them live, perish or explode in their belief as long as they are not a threat to anyone else.

Incidents like this are due to the religious & political hatred propagated by criminals to remain in power. It is unfortunate to see ignorant & idiots support this barbarian attitude in the name of their religion & attitude. E Malayalee should not tolerate the articles & comments . White extremists monitor all the media. When they find support from ethnic community, they become a torpedo. Anyone who supports a racist is a racist.
