Another temple attack in US spreads concern among Hindus
New York, Feb 28 : A
Sanatan Dharam temple was vandalised in Washington state with windows
broken and the word “Fear” painted on it, less than a fortnight after
another temple was attacked.
Members of
the the Sanatan Dharma Temple in Kent, about 30 km from Seattle, who
came for worship Friday “were greeted by shards of broken glass after
vandals targeted the building,” KING5-TV, a Seattle NBC affiliate,
reported. According to the temple web site, “Amalaki Ekadashi” was to be
observed Saturday.
Bricks were used to smash every window of the
building and parts of the structure were ripped apart, said KOMO-TV, an
ABC affiliate in Seattle. “The crime is small-minded with big
intentions, shattering calm with hate,” the station's reporter, John
Humbert, said. “Silence isn't the answer.”
Universal Society of
Hinduism President Rajan Zed, said: “Hindus nationwide are highly
concerned” by the second attack on a temple in recent days.
“It
was shocking for the hard-working, harmonious and peaceful US Hindu
community numbering about three million, who had made (a) lot of
contribution to the nation and society, to receive such signals of
hatred and anger.”
On February 15, the Hindu Temple Cultural
Centre in Bothell city, about 35 km from Seattle, found a swastika
painted on it and “Get Out” scrawled in large letters with spray paint.
In the US, white supremacists have adopted the Nazi swastika as an
ideological symbol.
The two temple attacks came after President
Barack Obama's criticism of India at an inter-religious prayer meeting
earlier in February where he said intolerance there “would have shocked
Gandhiji”.
Both temples do not have security cameras “and info on
the vandals remains elusive,” KOMO-TV said. The incidents are under
police investigation.
Several attacks on Hindu temples have taken
place across the US in the last few months. In August a murti (idol) of
Shiva at the Vishwa Bhavan Hindu Mandir in Monroe in the state of
Georgia was desecrated with black paint. The local sheriff's office
arrested two people in connection with the attack.
Between July
and October in Loudon County in Virginia, police have documented 17
separate incidents of anti-Hindu vandalism, the Hindu American
Foundation said.
In a twist to the Kent incident, an Islamic
organisation tried to deflect attention away from Hinduism, claiming
that the attack was directed against Muslims, even though the building
had a large sign, “Kent Hindu Temple.”
According to KOMO-TV,
Arsalan Bukahari of the Washington Council on American-Islamic Relations
said many of these acts of aggression target smaller religious groups
that some bigots think are Muslim.
Leading US Christian
fundamentalists have attacked Hinduism. Pat Robertson, who has called
Hinduism “demonic,” criticised the practice of yoga this week.
While
doing yoga, he said on the 700 Club TV programme, “you don't know what
the Hindu says, but actually it's a prayer to a Hindu deity and so it
sounds like gibberish." Robertson is a pastor who was once a candidate
for the Republican Party's presidential nomination and has a following
of millions.
Another Christian pastor, Franklin Graham, has
denounced Hinduism as a “false religion” and said that “none of their
9,000 gods is going to lead me to salvation. We are fooling ourselves”.

KENT —
Police are searching for the person who vandalized a Hindu temple in Kent.
A person from the temple found broken windows and graffiti
on their walls Friday. They believe it might have been done overnight.
Members who came to worship Friday night were greeted by
shards of broken glass after vandals targeted the building last night.
KING 5 counted seven broken windows and some graffiti on the
temple walls.
Regulars at the temple said they weren't sure if they were
targeted for their faith or if neighborhood teens were just causing trouble.
The council on American Islamic relations worries the Hindu
temple was mistaken as Muslim and says they've seen an increase in religiously
motivated crimes in the last few weeks.
Both the FBI and Kent police have been told about
the vandalism.

Hindus dismayed after 2nd temple
vandalism in 2 weeks in Seattle metropolitan area
Hindus nationwide are highly concerned after reports of
various broken windows and scrawling of word “FEAR” at Kent
Hindu Temple
wall in Washington
State late February 26
night.
This was second such incident in recent days in Seattle metropolitan area after scrawling of “GET OUT” on Bothell Hindu Temple
was discovered on February 15. In addition, a Hindu grandfather was roughed-up
by police in Madison (Alabama) on February six resulting in
partial paralysis. These two vandalized temples are about 34 miles apart from
each other in Seattle metropolitan area of Washington State.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that
it was shocking for the hard-working, harmonious and peaceful US Hindu
community numbering about three million; who had made lot of contributions to
the nation and society; to receive such signals of hatred and anger.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism,
urged administration for swift action to regain the falling confidence of the
Hindu community.
Rajan Zed suggested that basics of major world religions
should be taught in high schools of the country and first responders should be
imparted cultural competency training so that we understood each other better
in view of increasing diversity of the country. Zed urged fellow Hindus to
educate Americans about Hinduism, the oldest and third largest religion of the
world with about one billion adherents, and try to remove any misconceptions
about it.
Zed pointed out that reasons for the success of the US Hindu
community in the areas of education, wealth and long-lasting harmonious
marriages were because of their continuing with the traditional values of hard
work, higher morals, stress on education, sanctity of marriage, etc., in USA amidst so
many distractions.
Kent Hindu Temple (Sanatan Dharma Temple and Cultural
Center), a non-profit organization formed in 2002, opens daily and besides
regular worship services, also organizes festivals; Indian music, dance and
language classes; yoga; weekly children’s-parents’ activities; etc. Jugal
Thakor is Temple President, while Rishikesh Tiwari is the
Priest. Holi, annual festival of color, is scheduled for March eight.
യേശു സമാധാനകാരന് ആയിരുന്നോ ?
anand kumar – melattuveettil.
Unfortunately I have a Hindu name. But I am not religious .i left religion long time ago. I read e-malayalee comments daily. So I am forced to write my opinion.
A} it is foolish to demand that 'pen names' should not be used. If that was the rule in literature many classics would not have seen light. A true writer can write only if there is no fear ruling over him. Society has not grownup to tolerate criticism. So a writer must be given the privilege and freedom to use any name to conceal identity.
B} there is no peaceful religion in the world. All of the practice violence, even Buddhists became violent. So all religions must go because they are the root cause of all evils.
C} Jesus was not always peaceful as some preach and comment. See the following quotes from KJV.
Mathew: 10:34-37 …...i will deny; ….... I have not come to bring peace but a SWORD..... man against father, daughter against mother,......
Mathew 26:51-52 …...one of those [disciples] with Jesus put his hand on the sword........... cutting off his ear. Here Jesus did not tell him to throw away the sword but just to put it back in its place.
Luke 12:49- 53. I came to bring fire to the earth......
Luke 12: 46 …...cut him in pieces...
Jesus also told his disciples to sell their cloth and get swords.
2 of his followers: Simon and Judas were Iscariot s or Zealots. They were fanatic , Jewish revolutionaries. They concealed small swords under the coat and got in the crowds and killed them.
Peace is not a private monopoly of any particular religion. No religion has the fundamental purity to preach peace and that is why there is no peace on earth. Peace must come from with in you.
Christianity? Violence is in all of is. There are situations where violence is useful. It is perfectly ok to use violence to protect the weak and downtrodden in society when they suffer persecution. It is your job to use violence when those given in your protection is attacked or your wife or mother or children. If somebody try to snatch my child from me, I do not wait to call the police but finish the attacker. Will anamd give his other child also to the attacker in such a situation? Please be honest instead of criticizing others and other religions. If a person is going to get killed in front of your eyes before police can come it your job to protect the person if you can.
jesus did not kick back those who crucified him. in one comment you said Jesus is all peace and that is the way. in the 2nd comment you said it is ok to use violence. but remember, those who take sword will perish by it. now i see those who comment just because they don't like it is also perishing. Love your enemy and neighbor. Love unconditionally. not if you like it. mathulla! please do not spread hatred and racism. RSS is only a small fraction in hindu religion. but the vast majority of Hindus are peace loving. Let us all live together in peace and do not spread hatred.
Jesus was a peaceful person and non-violent person. Jesus figurative language was misinterpreted by many, a majority of them are Christians, and used it for pursing their comfort life just like Hindus. But, keeping these scholarships away and analyze closely we understand that he was trying to create a haven on earth for all with his ideology. If you tie all the religious made up stories of his miraculous birth and other miracles, then you will get caught up in the quagmire of religion and never understand the great leader, Jesus. If you look at the verses Mr. Annand Kumar quoted and continues reading further, then we understand how intelligent and shrewd he was in initiating a new way of life to undermine the orthodox system practiced for years. Hew new for sure that whatever he did would shake up the existing foundation lay new foundation for the future. He also knew he would be assassinated by his opponent for pushing his radical ideology.
34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[c]
37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
As I said earlier the figurative language he used is not to bring violence but he knew that violence was inevitable too. His definition for love is unconditional. We see how fake is love defined by the religion and there leaders by watching the events unfolding in the world stage on a daily basis. Mothers abandoning their children, parents throwing their children to water from bridges, children throwing their parents out of their house and abandoning them, and story continues. And, Jesus was talking about the same fake love on which our Hippocratic life is built. Isn’t it true even in this 21st century? I should say it is worse. So, I agree with Annand that the religion should be abolished or we can say figuratively that the religion should take sword against each other and destroy themselves. Do we really want this to happen? No; But that is what is happening around us? Religious people hate each other. Hindus are looking for Christians, Christians are looking for Hindus, Hindus are looking for Muslims and Muslims are looking for Hindus to strangle and kill each other. I agree with Annand Kumar once again with his statement that Jesus never promised peace but sword. Did he really want that sword to come upon his followers? No; But it was inevitable. So it is our wrong ideology is causing all these chaos here. Only unconditional love can bring change in this universe. But before it happens, religion must perish by beheading each other. Jesus teachings are too radical to follow but there were people followed it by carrying his cross. Abraham Lincoln and M.K. Gandhi were two notable people carried his cross walked the hard way.
Onece again Anthappan revealed his RSS mind and John Varughese proved that he is a fake Christian hiding behind a veil. He doesn’t know the abc of Christian faith. He must be Anthappan or somebody using this forum for propaganda. I have noticed him scratch the back of Anthappan many times in the past. Virgin birth and crucifixion and resurrection are the foundation of Christian faith. To say that virgin birth and miracles are made up stories, it is audacity at its pinnacle and ‘Mathanindha’ punishable in India. If I say such things in India, will RSS keep silent? The intolerance of RSS of other religions is notorious. Even those who criticized Modi in India on Facebook were punished. The violence in Anthappan’s mind is revealed when he look for a new world order where religion perish by beheading each other. Three fourth of the population will be gone from the face of earth. It is pathetic that a person can make such statements and continue to spill fourth hatred and bigotry in this forum. What kind of love is this? What they are writing has no relevance to the article posted here- attack on a Hindu temple and my condemning that action. Any article related to religion, these bigots use it to criticize Christianity. From RSS strategy when they say religion must perish they do not have their religion in mind. It is the Christian and Muslims that they want to fight and perish, and they are dreaming a new India without these two religions. It is the news today that in Maharashtra beef is banned.
also, tell me how many five star hospitals are built by christian churches or super specilaty hospitals?
HINDUISM IS IT A PRIVATE PROPERTY OF A FEW ?
Most people get confused what Hinduism is. Hinduism is one of the greatest thoughts in the world. It is very broad, vast like the mighty ocean. It is not a particular religion. It is a collection of all different kind and even contradicting thoughts. Atheism, monotheism, polytheism, cosmotheism, microtheism; Jainism,Buddhism and even Indian Christianity & Islam is part of Hinduism. Middle eastern/ Mediterranean thoughts and even Christianity was influenced by Hinduism. Many of the sayings of Jesus, that is narrated in the gospels are borrowed from Buddhism. So Hinduism is not an isolated or secluded religion within in the geographical boundaries of the Indian Sub-continent. The literature of Hinduism is so vast a human many need several lives to read them. All the scholars of Hinduism were never able to learn even a small fraction of Hinduism.
So it is unfortunate that Hinduism is understood as it is practiced by a Hindu religious man or devote. The temple Hinduism is very confusing and it is very far away from the core of Hinduism. People measure religion by what is practiced and performed by its members. “ The holy books” has great ideas and thoughts. But that doesn’t mean that what ever is done by a member of that particular religion is what is said in those books. You cannot identify the deeds of any devote to his religion. A cunning devote { not a true one} will always try to associate his deeds to the religion and the god of that religion. That was one of the major draw backs of all religion. '' In the name of god”- the cruel, cunning and selfish did evil. Wars in the name of god has killed more humans than the total of all political wars combined.
Religion and the deeds of the devotee must be seen separate. Christian priests are getting arrested world wide for crimes they did. Several pastors are in American prisons for crimes and fraud. But in India; things are different. Politicians and religious leaders commit crime and seek shelter under the party or religion. That is evil. It must not be tolerated in order for the civilization to survive.
Leave This Chanting :
Leave this chanting and singing and telling of beads!
Whom dost thou worship in this lonely dark
corner of a temple with doors all shut?
Open thine eyes and see thy God is not before thee!
He is there where the tiller is tilling the hard ground
and where the path-maker is breaking stones.
He is with them in sun and in shower,
and his garment is covered with dust
Put off thy holy mantle and even like him
come down on the dusty soil.
Come Out of thy meditations and leave aside
thy flowers and incense!
What harm is there if thy clothes become
tattered and stained?
Meet him and stand by him in toil and
in sweat of thy brow.
