25 Romantic Years of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya': Salman Khan’s ‘Prem’ still lives
'Love is Friendship' - The most accepted norm in the world of feelings and emotions was first given by Rajshri's 'Maine Pyar Kiya' released on December 29, 1989. And besides the dictum of love, what the movie also gave to the world was an actor par excellence - Salman Khan.

Having made his debut with a supporting role in Farooque Sheikh - Rekha starrer 'Biwi Ho Toh Aisi', Salman Khan got the perfect launch pad into the A list with this movie. Though Bhagyashree wasn't able to prolong her success, it was Salman Khan who took flight to superstardom.

Interestingly, Salman Khan was not the first choice to play Prem in the film. Prior to him, the role was offered to Vindoo Dara Singh, Deepak Tijori and Faraaz Khan - son of Yusuk Khan who played the villainous Zabisco in 'Amar Akbar Anthony'. Also, the movie didn't earn Salman accolades as soon as it broke; it took him almost a year to get newer and better roles.

But despite all this, the movie was the Midas touch in Salman's career. It explored his potential as a lover boy and gave the audience the unforgettable tale of adolescent romance.

The shy coy Prem and the 'shy-er', 'coy-er' Suman were a delight to watch, as they brought to us the 'Mausam Dosti Ka'.

With the romance and love losing its shine and sheen in today's cinema, while we still wonder in awe of the tender love and romance, we also congratulate the whole team of 'Maine Pyar Kiya' for a classic they made a 25 years ago. Long live love!
