പദ്മശ്രീ രാജന്‍ ദേവദാസ് (93) അന്തരിച്ചു
ഒരു വര്‍ഷമായി സ്‌ട്രോക്കിനെത്തുടര്‍ന്നു റിഹാബിറ്റേഷനിലായിരുന്നു. ഭാര്യ കിമിക്കോ ജാപ്പനീസ് വംശജയാണു. ആറു മക്കളുണ്ട്‌
അമ്പതുകളിലെത്തിയ അദ്ധേഹം വൈറ്റ് ഹൗസില്‍ പ്രവേശനം ലഭിക്കുന്ന ആദ്യ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഫോട്ടോഗ്രഫറെന്ന നിലയില്‍ വിവിധ പ്രസിഡന്റുമാരുടെ പരിപാടികള്‍ഇന്ത്യന്‍ മീഡിയക്കു വേണ്ടി കവര്‍ ചെയ്തു.
ഇന്ത്യാ-യു.എസ്. ബന്ധം മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിനു ആദ്ധേഹം നല്‍കിയ സേവനങ്ങളെ ആദരിച്ചാണു ഇന്ത്യ പദ്മശ്രീ ബഹുമതി നല്‍കിയത്.
ജവഹര്‍ലാല്‍ നെഹ്രു മുതല്‍ ഡോ. മന്മോഹന്‍ സിംഗ് വരെയുള്ള ഇന്ത്യന്‍ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിമാരുടെ വൈറ്റ് ഹൗസ് സന്ദര്‍ശനം അദ്ദേഹം ചിത്രീകരിച്ചു.
പദ്മശ്രീ ലഭിക്കുന്നത് 2002-ല്‍ ആണു. ചിക്കാഗോയില്‍ നടന്ന ഫൊക്കാന കണ്‍വന്‍ഷനില്‍ അന്നത്തെ അംബാസഡര്‍ ലളിത് മാന്‍സിംഗ് പദ്മശ്രീ സമ്മാനിച്ചു. ഉറ്റ സുഹ്രുത്തുക്കളായ സണ്ണി വൈക്ലിഫ്, ഡോ. പാര്‍ഥസാരഥി പിള്ള, ഡോ. ശംഭു വണിക്ക് എന്നിവരാണു പദ്മ ശ്രീ ലഭിക്കുവാന്‍ മുന്നിട്ടിറങ്ങിയത്. അന്നത്തെ രാഷ്ട്രപപതി കെ.ആര്‍ നാരായണനെ ഇതു സംബന്ധിച്ചു കണ്ടത് സണ്ണി വൈക്ലിഫ് അനുസ്മരിച്ചു. ഫൊക്കാന കണ്‍വന്‍ഷനിലേക്കു ബഹുമതി പത്രവും മറ്റും കൊണ്ടു പോയതും സണ്ണി വൈക്ലിഫ് ആയിരുന്നു.
അമേരിക്കയിലെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ വംശജര്‍ക്കിടയിലെ ലെജന്‍ഡറി ഫിഗര്‍ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന രാജന്‍ ദേവദാസ്, ബനാറസ് ഹിന്ദു യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയിലെ പഠനത്തിനുശേഷമാണ് പ്രശസ്തമായ പെന്‍ഡില്‍ ഹില്‍സ് അക്കാഡമിയില്‍ ഉപരിപഠനത്തിന് എത്തിയത്. പെന്‍ഡില്‍ ഹില്‍സിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ ഫോറിന്‍ സ്‌കോളറും രാജന്‍ ദേവദാസ് ആയിരുന്നു. വൈറ്റ് ഹൗസിന്റെ ആദ്യത്തെ അക്രഡിറ്റഡ് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഫോട്ടോ ജേര്‍ണലിസ്റ്റ്' ആയിരുന്ന രാജന്‍ ദേവദാസ്, തന്റെ ചിത്രങ്ങളിലൂടെ 50 വര്‍ഷത്തെ, യു.എസ് ഇന്ത്യ ബന്ധത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രകാരനായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
കഴിഞ്ഞ 60 വര്‍ഷത്തിലേറെ, അമേരിക്കയില്‍ താമസിച്ചിട്ടും, ഇന്നും ഇന്ത്യന്‍ പാസ്‌പോര്‍ട്ട് ഹോള്‍ഡറാണ്. ഗാന്ധി പീസ് അവാര്‍ഡ് അടക്കം നിരവധി പുരസ്‌കാരങ്ങള്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ തേടിയെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ഇന്ത്യയുടെ 65മത് സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യദിന വാര്‍ഷികാഘോഷങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായി ബിനോയി തോമസ് പ്രസിഡന്റായ നാഷണല്‍ കൗണ്‍സില്‍ ഓഫ് ഏഷ്യന്‍ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ അസോസിയേഷന്‍സ് സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച ബാങ്ക്വറ്റ് ഡിന്നറില്‍ (2012) രാജന്‍ ദേവദാസിന് ലൈഫ് ടൈം അച്ചീവ്‌മെന്റ് അവാര്‍ഡ് സമ്മാനിച്ചു.
എന്റെ പ്രിയ സുഹൃത്തായ പദ്മശ്രീ രാജന്‍ ദേവദാസിന് അവാര്‍ഡ് സമ്മാനിക്കാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞത് ഏറ്റവും ധന്യമായ നിമിഷമെന്നാണ്' അവാര്‍ഡ് സമ്മാനിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അംബാസിഡര്‍ നിരുപമ റാവു അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടു.
The photojournalist, who received Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honors, in 2002 for Arts, had been rehabilitating at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, in Rockville, Maryland, after suffering a stroke more than a year ago.
Devadas is survived by his wife, Kimiko, and six children.
Beginning in the late 1950s, the legendary photographer documented the US visits of every Indian prime minister from Jawaharlal Nehru to Dr. Manmohan Singh. He also photographed every US president from John F. Kennedy to George W. Bush.
Other world leaders he photographed include Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher of Britain, President J.R. Jayewardene of Sri Lanka, and President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and spiritual leaders such as Pope John Paul, Dalai Lama and Mother Teresa.
His photos were carried by dozens of news organizations worldwide, including India Abroad, the Press Trust of India, The Times of India, Illustrated Weekly of India, The Hindu, The Hindustan Times, The New York Times, The Washington Post, UPI, Reuters and Al Ahram.
For a number of years, Devadas worked as official photographer of the Embassy of India in Washington, during which he developed close friendships with a number of Indian ambassadors to the United States, including Braj Kumar Nehru—whom he considered a mentor—K.R. Narayanan, Abid Hussein, Lalit Mansingh, Ronan Sen and Nirupama Rao.

ശ്രീ. ഉദയഭാനു പണിക്കർ ആരാണെന്നു പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടില്ല, കമന്റിൽ. ശ്രീ. പണിക്കരുടെ ഫ്രാണ്ടായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം എന്നു എഴുതിക്കണ്ടു. അമ്പാസ്സിഡർ നിരുപമ റാവു ഉൾപ്പടെ പലരും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഫ്രണ്ടായിരുന്നു എന്നു എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. വാഷിംഗ്ടണ്ണിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നോ? എവിടെങ്കിലും അമ്പാസ്സിഡറോ മറ്റോ ആയിരുന്നോ? അതോ കേരളത്തിലെ പൊളിറ്റീഷനാണൊ?
