നവംബര്‍ മൂന്നിന് പ്രസിഡന്‍ഷ്യല്‍ ഇലക്ഷന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്കില്‍ ഒന്‍പത് ദിവസം മുന്‍പേ ശനിയാഴ്ച മുതല്‍ (ഒക്ടോ-24) വോട്ടിംഗ് ആരംഭിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ വോട്ടര്‍മാരുടെ നീണ്ട ക്യു.
ഏര്‍ലി വോട്ടിംഗ് നവംബര്‍ ഒന്നുവരെ തുടരും.നവംബര്‍ 2 ന് ഈ അവസരം ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കില്ല.
'ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ തന്നെ ആദ്യമായാണ് പ്രസിഡന്‍ഷ്യല്‍ ഇലക്ഷന്‍ നടക്കുന്നതിനു മുന്‍പേ ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്കുകാര്‍ക്ക് വോട്ട് ചെയ്യാന്‍ ഒരു അവസരം ലഭിക്കുന്നത്. അത് ശരിയായി വിനിയോഗിക്കൂ'ഗവര്‍ണര്‍ ആന്‍ഡ്രൂ കോമോ ട്വീറ്റ് ചെയ്തു.

ജൂണ്‍ 22 ന് 1,104 കോവിഡ് രോഗികളെ പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ച ഏറ്റവും ഉയര്‍ന്ന നിരക്ക് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയശേഷം വ്യാഴാഴ്ചയാണ് 1023 വൈറസ് ബാധിതര്‍ എന്ന നിലയിലേക്ക് വ്യാപന തോത് വീണ്ടും കൂടിയത്. ജൂലൈ, ഓഗസ്റ്റ് മാസങ്ങളില്‍ രോഗനിരക്ക് ഗണ്യമായിതാഴ്ന്ന ശേഷം സെപ്റ്റംബര്‍ അഞ്ചിന് രോഗികളുടെ എണ്ണം 410 ല്‍ എത്തി. ഒരുമാസം കൊണ്ട് ഒക്ടോബര്‍ അഞ്ചിന് ഏകദേശം ഇരട്ടിയോടടുത്ത് 710 കോവിഡ് രോഗികളെയാണ് ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചത്.
കഴിഞ്ഞ ഒന്നരമാസമായാണ് രോഗബാധിതരുടെ എണ്ണം ഇങ്ങനെ ഉയര്‍ന്നത്.ബ്രൂക്ലിന്‍ , ക്വീന്‍സ്, റോക്ലന്‍ഡ്, ഓറഞ്ച് കൗണ്ടി, എന്നിവിടങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നാണ് പുതിയതായി ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ പ്രവേശിക്കപ്പെട്ട കോവിഡ് രോഗികളില്‍ 50 ശതമാനവും.
ഏപ്രിലില്‍ 18000 പേരെയാണ് ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്കില്‍ കോറോണബാധിച്ച് ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചത്. ഇതിനെ അതിജീവിക്കാന്‍ ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്ക് വാസികള്‍ നല്‍കിയ പിന്തുണ അനുപമവും മാതൃകാപരവുമാണെന്ന് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് തുടര്‍ന്നും ആരോഗ്യ വിദഗ്ധരുടെ മാര്‍ഗനിര്‍ദ്ദേശങ്ങള്‍ ജനങ്ങള്‍ കര്‍ശനമായി പാലിക്കണമെന്നും ഗവര്‍ണര്‍ കോമോ അഭ്യര്‍ഥിച്ചു. ശൈത്യം വരികയാണെന്നും മുന്‍കരുതല്‍ വേണമെന്നുള്ള സൂചനയാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ കാണുന്ന രോഗവ്യാപനത്തിലെ കുതിപ്പെന്നുംഅദ്ദേഹം അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടു.
