LITTLE FERRY — A 29-year-old mother charged with killing her 5-day-old daughter in her apartment by slicing her throat and arm with a knife on Thursday told police she didn’t want her child, according to court records.

Hiralbahen Bhavsar, of Little Ferry, is being held at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. She is charged with first-degree murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

On Thursday, Bhavsar initially called 911 around 8:30 p.m. stating she had chest pains, according to an affidavit.

“After a brief moment, she then stated that ‘someone was trying to kill her,’ " according to the affidavit. "She then stated that it was in fact her husband who was trying to kill her, and that he was presently armed with a knife and in the living room of their apartment.”

Police arrived at Bhavsar's Liberty Street apartment shortly the 911 call and handcuffed her husband, Jaymin Bhavsar, according to court records. Family members who were inside the apartment yelled at police “No, no, not him.”

“At this time, Hiralbahen exited a rear bedroom and began stating, ‘No, no not him. I did it. I killed my baby,” according to the affidavit.

Police found the lifeless baby on the bed of the bedroom with wounds to her arm and neck, according to the affidavit.
