Dear Sir/Maam
This is to bring to your notice the massive instances of fraud that are going
in in the online voting for the TIME 100 2012 polls.
Towards the end of the last month, your magazine put out an internet based
opinion poll seeking votes for a place in the TIME 100 list for 2012. One of
the nominees is the popular Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi. In its
issue dated 26th March, Narendra Modi had featured on the magazines cover story
as well. As voting progressed, Narendra Modi occupied the top spot, receiving
the highest number votes. Infact, even if one calculated the difference between
the ‘Definitely’ and the ‘No Way’ he was comfortably in the lead.
Suddenly, the last 12 hours have changed the situation. Brisk and near
fanatical voting has ensured that ‘Anonymous’ is now the leader of the pack,
eve crossing 300,000 mark. Erik Martin, who Narendra Modi displaced to gain the
top spot also saw his tally surge by over 25,000 votes.
Now, please note these points in relation to the following facts:
• ‘Anonymous’ has not more than 160,000 votes last evening. Thus, it suggests
that this candidate did not draw so much public attention since polls opened.
Then why did it suddenly surge, and that too at this margin?
• Erik Martin, who was hovering between the 120,000 and 125,000 mark for the
last 2 days is upto 160,000 in a matter of few hours. Is it a ‘surge’ for Erik
Martin or is someone else driving this?
• The number of petitions, hate campaigns particularly by some sections of
people asking not NOs against Narendra Modi. This when the man himself has not
even bothered to speak about this so called poll.
Internet safety, honesty and free press are very valued aspects of a liberal
democracy. On Good Friday, we cannot see the crucifixion of these values that
we cherish from the bottom of our hearts. Today anti-social elements are only
rigging an online poll but tomorrow the threat can be deeper- government
documents, social security files, healthcare details, just where is all this
taking us and where will it stop?
Narendra Modi has made his mark as a valued administrator and a champion of
those who have been otherwise on the margins of history. It is not that such
lists would even matter to him but this is a larger battle, it’s a battle for
honesty and ideals.
It is a request to you, the editors of a reputed journal such as TIME to
introspect and wake up to what is happening.

If you see these links you will notice that it happens time and again. Then why
it not being stopped?
I request you to support my petition in the interest of democracy, freedom of
speech and values of honesty that are increasingly becoming a rarity, a case in
point being the Time 100 list.
Sincerely,
