US Supreme Court rejects Trump administration's appeal in Dreamers case

Washington, Feb 27 (IANS) The US Supreme Court refused on Monday to take up the Trump administration's appeal of a lower court ruling that requires it to continue a programme that protects hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation.

"The petition for a writ of certiorari before judgment is denied without prejudice," Xinhua cited a a court filing as saying.

"It is assumed that the Court of Appeals will proceed expeditiously to decide this case" on the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals programme, or DACA.

In an unusual move, the Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to intervene in the case before a federal appeals court had ruled.

US President Donald Trump announced an end to the programme in September last year but gave Congress six months to find a legislative alternative.

While protections for the "Dreamers" were due to start phasing out in March, Congress has so far failed to pass legislation to address their fates.

Last month, San Francisco-based US District Judge William Alsup ruled that the government must continue to process renewals of existing DACA applications.

A second judge in New York issued a similar injunction earlier this month.

The injunctions are due to be heard by federal appeals courts but the process could take months or years, prompting the Trump administration's move to take it directly to the Supreme Court, which rarely accepts appeals asking them to bypass the lower courts.

Following the court's decision, Trump told a White House meeting that "We'd like to help DACA" and criticised the lower court.

The White House issued a statement accusing the district judge in the case of having "unwisely interviewed in the legislative process" by acting while Congress in debating the policy.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement that the Supreme Court's action shows that "rescinding DACA was not only legally questionable, but also unjust and cruel."

DACA, established by former US President Barack Obama in 2012, was an immigration policy that allowed some individuals who entered the US as minors, mostly illegally, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and to be eligible for a work permit.

ഇതായിരുന്നു ട്രംപിന് വേണ്ടത്. ഇതൊക്കെ പുള്ളിയുടെ ഓരോ കളികളല്ലേ?
He is a wonderful business man, who knows how to play his game.

Now he will say, "see... I tried to take out illegals. But court put a stop to it. I shall continue trying in different ways". So all Republicans happy and they will put more republicans in House & Senate.

Democrats will be in real trouble. What stance they will take? Their leaders are in two different ends when it comes to DACA. Actually they do not have a charismatic leader, that is the big issue. They are projecting people like Oprah, sad & shame...

Obama just killed this party.

RUSSIA & TRUMP 2018-02-27 14:22:19

The office of special counsel Robert Mueller has now proposed dropping charges against former Trump campaign aide Rick Gates, Gates has given the investigation significant information related to its probe of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

As reported by Politico’s Kyle Cheney, the special counsel’s office has officially proposed dropping 17 separate charges against Gates from a superseding indictment that it issued last week. In his filing to dismiss the charges, Mueller writes “the government is moving to dismiss pursuant to a plea agreement,” although he doesn’t spell out any details of what his office is getting in exchange from Gates.

Gates, who served as Trump’s deputy campaign chairman during the 2016 presidential election, agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy against the United States and lying to federal investigators last week. Gates’ guilty plea came shortly after the special counsel’s office issued a new 32-count indictment against Gates and Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign manager who faces charges related to money laundering and tax fraud.

Investigators for special counsel Robert Mueller have recently been asking witnesses about Donald Trump's business activities in Russia prior to the 2016 presidential campaign as he considered a run for president, according to three people familiar with the matter.

Questions to some witnesses during wide-ranging interviews included the timing of Trump's decision to seek the presidency, potentially compromising information the Russians may have had about him, and why efforts to brand a Trump Tower in Moscow fell through, two sources said.

The lines of inquiry indicate Mueller's team is reaching beyond the campaign to explore how the Russians might have sought to influence Trump at a time when he was discussing deals in Moscow and contemplating a presidential run.

To the malayale who said Democrats  & Obama  [keniya kuttan] did nothing to control guns.

Democrat representatives: David  Cicilline , Richmond & Ted Deutch, Florida, has introduced a bill on Monday to BAN Assault weapons.

The legislation, called the Assault Weapons Ban of 2018, was introduced less than two weeks after the mass shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school that left 17 people dead. The gunman used an AR-15 assault weapon during the shooting, one of the many firearms that would be banned under the bill. The legislation would make it “unlawful for a person to import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, a semiautomatic assault weapon.” The ban wouldn't apply to semi-automatic weapons that were "lawfully possessed" when the measure went into effect.

The bill also requires the attorney general to create a public record of semiautomatic assault weapons that have been used in crimes. The new legislation is the latest attempt by Democrats to implement a ban on the guns since the Federal Assault Weapons ban expired in 2004 which was signed by Clinton.
The White House has already come out against such a ban, which is strongly opposed by the National Rifle Association. Trump was opposed to the ban during campaign and even now. Republicans control  state Senate & House,+ governor and are opposed to gun control.

Jan 2009, in the month that Obuttan came to power, the House was made up of 257 Demos and 178 Repubs. OBU had TOTAL CONTROL in the House.

Jan 2009, 57 Senate seats were held by Demos with 2 Independents (Bernie & Joe) caucusing with the Demos…which gave Demos 59 mostly-reliable Democratic votes in the Senate, Repubs held 41 seats.

Even after TOTAL CONTROL on Senate and House, Obuttan failed to perform. No action on Gun Laws, No tax system overhaul, no nothing.

Just flowery words nothing other than that. He could fool many including few malayalees, but every single, self respect, employed, thankful ones voted against his party for his failure policies like ObamaCare

It is our luck that we got a capable President, who does not knee in front of Saudi King or Dubai Shake. A President who can take decisions and swim against the current.
