Dr. Kavil served as the Chairman of the department of Marketing at the Peter J. Tobin College of Business, St. John's University (NY) since 1998 to 2005. He is also the President of Kavil Consultants (NY) and does consulting work in the field of International Trade, Marketing Strategy and Database/Relationship Marketing.

He is the Vice Chairman of the United States Indian American Chamber of Commerce, Washington, D.C. He serves the Asian Indian Community as the National President of NAAAID - National Association of Americans of Asian Indian Descent. He was the President of the Kerala Center, Elmont, New York, and until May 2004, he was the chairman, World Malaylee Council, America Region.

Dr. Kavil has won several research awards and has contributed widely to various marketing journals. He is the author of the textbook "Export Management Practice". He hopes to complete his next textbook "Marketing in Asia" in 2009.

He has a Doctorate in International Business from Pace University (NY), an M.B.A. from Long Island University, New York, an M.B.A., L.L.B. and a B. COM. from Calcutta University and a B.A. from Madras University.

Prior to joining the academic field, Dr. Kavil has held several top management positions in both very large and medium-size multinational corporations. He served on the Advisory Board of the Direct Marketing Day in New York, Inc. for 10 years. He is now a Fellow of the Institute of Direct Marketing. He is on the Board of the International Institute for Scientific and Academic Collaboration, Inc. (IISAC). He also served on the Regents College, State University of New York, as an Examiner/Consultant for their external degree programs.

Dr. Kavil has traveled several times to 35 countries on business. He has conducted numerous seminars in many different locations, including Europe, Scandinavia and the Far East. He has represented the U.S. Department of Commerce on a U.S. Trade Mission to the Far East in 1978. In March 1991, Dr Kavil was invited to testify before the Presidential Commission (Minority Business Development) on "International Trade and Access to Capital".

Some presentations made by Dr. Kavil have been: J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.: The Credit Card Segment of the Financial Services Industry (Northeast Business and Economics Association); Business-to-Consumers (B2C) E-Commerce: Integrating E-Commerce Tools into Existing Business. (North Eastern Business and Economics Association.); as a keynote speaker at New York University on "Total Quality Management," "Trade Promotion Problems of Jamaica " and at the Eight International Congress, North American Economic and Finance Association of Jamaica; and at the Direct Marketing Educators Conference, (International) in Toronto on "Design of An Ideal Direct Marketing Course From the Students' Perspective," His J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. case study won the award for "Best Research Paper" on September 26,2002.

Dr. Kavil was a speaker on August 8, 1995 at SSA World Class Service Communication Workshop, conducted by the Social Security Administration (U.S. Government). His presentation at the 1999 Convention of the World Malayalee Council was on "Entrepreneurial Talents in America: A Minority Perspective" In appreciation of the successful negotiation of the renewal of a $420 million loan for the SSP Project (Narmada) with the World Bank in July 1991, the Honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat State (India) presented an award for Excellence in Community Service to Dr. Kavil in a public function held on September 17,1995.

On May 12, 2000, the Alumni Association of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, St. John's University, honored Dr. Kavil as the Outstanding Professor of the Year. In addition, on May 24, 2000, he was the recipient of a Faculty Achievement Award from St. John's University at a Special Convocation. On April 24,2003, Dr. Kavil was recognized and honored for his contributions to the TCB chapter of the American Marketing Association. In June 2003, the Sri Chinmoy Mission, an affiliate of the United Nations, honored Dr. Kavil in a unique function, “Lift Up Your Spirits”.

He was given an Award of Excellence, on April 18,2006 by the Tobin College of Business,Department of Marketing for his dedicated service as Chairman of the Dept. of Marketing.

He is a member of several professional associations and a LIFE MEMBER OF THE REPUBLICAN SENTATORIAL INNER CIRCLE. On Sept. 16, 2006, he received a U.S. Congressional order of Merit. He was awarded the AMERICAN SPIRIT MEDAL by President Bush at a luncheon on October 20, 2006.

Dr. Kavil represented United States of America on the Historic Trade Mission to India in November- December 2006 organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Washington, D.C.
