One of the hottest contested seats was in California’s 17th Congressional District, with Ro Khanna in his second run for the seat against incumbent Mike Honda.

Khanna and Honda, both Democrats, were neck-and-neck in the 2014 general election with the Indian American attorney from Fremont coming up just 3.6 percent short. That year, Honda topped Khanna in the primary by 14.2 percent.

Since then, Honda has been embattled in an ongoing probe by the House Ethics Committee for allegations he had congressional aides perform campaign work during government business hours.

Khanna has taken that to his advantage. With all ballots counted, Khanna emerged with a 186 vote lead over Honda, capturing 38.3 percent of the vote to Honda’s 38.1 percent. Four other candidates — Ron Cohen, Peter Kuo, Pierluigi Oliverio and Kennita Watson — took distant third through sixth places.

California’s 7th Congressional district seat, where Rep. Ami Bera, a Democrat seeking his third term in office, is facing off against Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones, a Republican, took a surprising turn.

But Bera prevailed in the June 7 primary, capturing 53 percent of the vote. He and Jones will both advance to the Nov. 8 election.

“We've helped over 6,000 residents with their issues with the federal government, and returned over $3 million in earned benefits to veterans, seniors, and many other taxpayers. I'm committed to making government work for the hardworking families of Sacramento County, and my priority remains on putting people ahead of politics," said Bera.

Peter Jacob, 30, of Union, N.J., told India-West May 5 that he is not into politics, but more into public service. Jacob, a Democrat, ran unopposed in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, advancing to the November general election.

Having already sealed the victory, following the results, Jacob tweeted, “Thank you to all those who voted. Now it's time to turn our attention to November!”

In the Nov. 8 election, the Indian American social worker, who is looking to create the “American Dream 2.0,” will be taking on Republican incumbent Leonard Lance.

Lance, who Jacob said “used to care about the environment, but has been completely silent on it,” topped David Larsen and Craig Heard in the Republican primary. The incumbent finished had 52.3 percent of the vote at time of press, nearly 30 percent more than Larsen (32.8 percent) and Heard (14.9 percent).

Jacob likened Lance, who he said was once a “moderate” politician, to Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump in his stance on foreign policy, among others.

In California’s 24th Assembly District, prior to the results coming to light, Seelam Reddy conceded from the race, saying, “Money and special interests take over the 24th Assembly District primary.”

Ron Sanyal was attempting to make a run at North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District seat. The state had redistricted, putting Sanyal, who unsuccessfully ran for the 13th Congressional District in 2014, in the 2nd District.

John McNeil won the Democratic primary with 46.1 percent of the vote. Sanyal came in fourth at 10.7 percent. McNeil will take on 13th District incumbent George Holding, who won the Republican spot.

In the early results of California’s 14th Assembly District, Harmesh Kumar was in fourth place. Mae Torlakson, who had earned the endorsement from former candidate Satinder Malhi, led the early results, with Debora Allen in second and Tim Grayson in third.

Rajiv Dalal, in California’s 43rd Assembly District, in early results, was running in the seventh position out of eight candidates. Ardy Kassakhian and Laura Friedman were holding the top two spots handily.

In California’s 68th Assembly District, Harry Sidhu, a Republican, held a narrow lead over Steven Choi for the second spot in early tabulations. Sean Panahi held a sizeable lead above Sidhu and the other candidates.

California’s 12th Assembly District was extremely tight as early results came in. Harinder Grewal was in third at the time of press, not far behind Heath Flora and Virginia Madueno, who were slotted first and second, respectively.

In California’s 27th Assembly District, San Jose City councilman Ash Kalra came in second — with 9,864 votes — to Madison Nguyen, who held more than 18,474 votes, in a race contested by seven candidates.

In California’s 30th Congressional District, Raji Rab was in sixth place out of seven candidates, while Republican Navraj Singh was in fourth.

How can you say Peter jacob JAYICHU when there was no opponent?  He was considered JAYICHU back in Jan.  Why now?  This is stupid and simple math. So weird?
