Next stop, maternity ward!

A woman went into labor on a New York-bound PATH train yesterday, and her baby took the express track — he was born before the train even pulled in to its Manhattan terminal.

When Rabita Sarkar and her husband, Aditya Saurabh, left their Harrison, NJ, home they were still planning their unborn child’s exciting future.

But by the time their train rumbled into Manhattan’s 33rd Street station, they were a new family, complete with a baby boy and a train car full of honorary uncles and aunts.

“He came in a very dramatic fashion,” the smiling new mom told The Post from her bed at Roosevelt Hospital

We always thought the first baby takes time to come. I thought we had the luxury of time,” she said, admitting she made a novice’s mistake.

Sarkar, 31, who wasn’t expecting to deliver for another two weeks, was having what she thought were false labor pains when she and her husband decided to play it safe and check in with her doctor.

The wary couple had heard all the stories about babies being born in cars, so didn’t want to risk getting stuck in traffic.

“We thought we could avoid traffic and take the train in the city,” Sarkar said.

The couple, both software engineers, boarded the train at 9:49 a.m. at Journal Square station in Jersey City. Before the train made its second stop at the Newport station, the baby was ready to make an exit.

“The other people on the train were really helpful,” Sarkar said. “There was an old lady who told us what to do, because we had no idea.”

Another passenger gave up his jacket to cover the mother.

Saurabh said he’d read the book “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.”

But he hadn’t read anything about what to expect when you’re expecting on the floor of a speeding train car.

“I told her to stand up,” Saurabh said. “She told me to look, and I saw his hair. The old lady said you’ll have to take the baby out. It was a quick delivery.”

Moments later, the train’s conductor made an announcement that the woman had given birth and that the train would be skipping stops and going express to 33rd Street in Manhattan.

“God bless the little one!” the conductor exclaimed.

The first thing cops and EMTs saw when the train doors opened in Midtown was a beaming Saurabh holding his son.

The couple had a name picked out — but might change it under the circumstances.
