High Command’s assessment of the reason for the loss in the election is more correct than any other reasons. Chennithala lost the trust of minorities in Kerala (especially Christians). I also felt the same way. The curse of the Congress Party is that it is full of people with more allegiance to their religious sentiments than secular view. We saw this in North India also where Congress MLA can be easily bought by BJP. Surendran also stated that BJP will rule the state if it can win 35 seats. Due to their religious sentiments favorable to one religion they played politics to fill influential positions and seats with members of their religion. LDF also is not immune from this but ‘thammil Bhetham thomman thanne’. Oommen Chandy couldn’t fight for minority rights as he was happy with some positions for his group members. We saw the beginning of this politics when Cheenithala wrestled and got ‘abhyntharam’ from Oommen Chandy when he was the chief minister. Chennithala and Mullappally allowed religious extremists to grow in influence, and gave lip service to secularism. No doubt BJP has influenced them more than Congress ideologies. If there is no Congress Party in Kerala, both of them and many others from UDF and some from LDF will end up in BJP.
