The proposed Aranmula airport is
unnecessary. It will destroy the ecosystem
of Kerala. Many who argue in favor of
the airport are vested interest groups who wants to sell acres of inherited
land at a premium price that now sells cheap, and many reside in the USA. They argue that the new airport will boost
the development of the nearby towns. On
the contrary, even after years from now most places will still be
under-developed. For instance, the roads
that connect my small village near Nedumbassery airport to other cities are the
same last 40 years. They even surveyed and
tried to reclaim lands to widen the surrounding roads after building the new
Nedumbassery airport. But nothing happened. What changed is the property value increased
as high as 50 folds. The same promises
were promised back then. But Kerala is
Kerala, and we are still Keralites surrounded by filthy politicians.
Kerala needs a massive
infrastructure development. There should
be eight-lane highways on top of the MC Road and NH 47 connecting neighboring
cities. Most places need new roads, and
many roads require widening. The
Government of Kerala or a consortium of private and public entities should
lease the train tracks from the central government and run special trains in
line with the airport schedules. NH 47
should be connected with other three major airports. There should be frequent trains connecting
the major cities with three major airports.
More airports are not the answer
to the plight of passengers from these far cities. By this logic, New York, New Jersey, and
Connecticut should have more international airports. Instead, the respective state governments
developed infrastructure to accommodate JFK and Liberty airports.
The author cites the development
of Nedumbassery airport. Back in the
1990's, growing number of passengers from Gulf countries and elsewhere using
the Cochin airport operated by the Indian Navy.
It was so congested with both civilian and military aircrafts, the
Kerala Government decided to have a civilian airport rather than sharing with a
military airport. Also, the Indian Navy
was pushing the Kerala government to develop a civilian airport as it was
overcrowded with both civilian and military aircrafts. You can’t compare both situations as one.
The author also said many
previous governments approved it. The
politicians approved the project to cater to the voter bank, knowing the
Central government would stop the development.
I am sure, there were crooked politicians who would sell themselves to
make a buck. So I am not surprised. Even the religious leaders supported it because
the pressure from the influential rich donors.
We need to develop massive infrastructures such
as new highways, widening of existing highways, and more train tracks and
trains connecting the flights, as well as other cities. The government should partner with private
entities to speed up the development rather than taking years to finish a
project. All political parties should
co-operate than striking every which way they can. Don’t be like a crooked politician trying destroy
the eco-system and the beauty of Kerala to make a buck. Sacrifice for the future generations.

Is there any way to develop highways in Kerala with its population? No. air travel may be better and harmless. 700 hundred acres will not eliminate the heritage of Aranmula.

When
a person is emotionally attached to an issue, he/she can’t reason well. Skill
is in removing the emotion from the issue. Your emotion is related to your self
interest in the issue. Removing the self from the issue can help to see things
clearly. Your self is related to whom you identify with. Most of the comments
can be compared to the saying, ‘Poocha palu kudikuunnapole’. Hidden agenda in
mind come out through words from veil covered faces that they think nobody will
understand. We heard same type of arguments when the Pathanamthitta district
was formed. These people take into consideration, who benefit the most from the
airport. If the people who benefit most are perceived as (the fact is that the
whole state and country benefit) those who are identified as against your
thinking, such veiled comments on the disadvantages of the action come out as
propaganda. If people in Aaranmula only can speak about it, tomorrow if they
ask for a separate state, can we agree to it? So there is no logic in leaving
it to the people of Aaranmula only. The interest of the whole state, and the
possible developments and possibilities for the state and country need to be
considered. So the central government also has a say in it. If what happens in
Aaranmula is something that affects me too, I can express my opinion on it.

VadaNy ‘s comment is very impressive. He is not only commenting but giving some
creative solutions for the problems. It
doesn’t make any sense to have airports in every fifty miles. If American Malayaalee Achyaans want airport,
they can buy land and have small airport without destroying the ecosystem,
environment, and destroying the life of the indigent people. They can invest money and have small shuttle
planes operating, which can carry up to twenty people, between TVM airport, Kochi
airport, Kannur airport, and Calicut airport.
Corrupted people are there everywhere just like Koch brothers in
USA. These brothers oppose any steps US government
takes to curb the carbon pollutions. Because,
their manufacturing companies in USA pollute most of the atmosphere. Just like these brothers, the crooked
politicians in Kerala with the help of some of the so called privacy crooked
leaders in USA are determined to destroy kerala. Pravasies in USA doesn’t lose anything if
Aarmula is screwed up because their children are in one of the safest country in
the world. Stop this nonsense guys. Stop making friendship with devils
(Politicians) in kerala and destroy the land which gave you upbringing to come
to the position you are in now. Don’t bite back the hand which fed you.
