ഞായറഴ്ച്ച ഷൊ ബോട്ട്കാസിനോയും (Showboat) തിങ്കളാഴ്ചയും ചെവ്വാഴ്ചയുമായി റെവലും, (Revel) സെപ്റ്റംബര്‍ 16ന് ട്രംപ് പ്ലാസയും (Trump Plaza) അടച്ചുപൂട്ടും.
മൂന്ന് പതിറ്റാണ്ടോളമായി ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്ന ജീവനക്കാര്‍ കാസിനോകള്‍ അടയ്ക്കുന്നു എന്ന യാഥാര്‍ത്ഥ്യം അംഗീകരിക്കുവാന്‍ പ്രയായപ്പെടുകയാണ്. 5000ത്തിലാധികം ജീവനക്കാരുടെ ഭാവി ഇതോടെ അനിശ്ചിതത്വത്തിലായിരിക്കുന്നു.
മറ്റു സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലെ കാസിനോകളുമായി മത്സരിക്കുക അസാധ്യമായതിനാലും, സാമ്പത്തിക ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടമാണ് ഇവ അടക്കുന്നതിന് കാരണമായത്.
കാസിനോകള്‍ അടയ്ക്കുന്ന വിവരം അറിഞ്ഞു ആയിരങ്ങളാണ് മുമ്പില്‍ ഒന്നിച്ചു കൂടിയത്.

The $2.4 billion Revel Casino resort closed its hotel at 11 am Monday. The casino was to close at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Revel hotel guest Andrew Tannenbaum of Edison, N.J., said he loved his stay, but management “overspent, went overboard and got in over their heads.”
Atlantic City
started the year with 12 casinos. By mid-September it will have eight, and
8,000 workers will have lost their jobs.
The city’s woes were brought on by ever-increasing competition from casinos in nearby states in the saturated Northeast gambling market.
