ഷില്ലോങ്: മുന്‍ രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഡോ. എ.പി.ജെ. അബ്ദുള്‍ കലാം (84) അന്തരിച്ചു. വൈകീട്ട് ഏഴു മണിക്ക് ഷില്ലോങ് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മാനേജ്‌മെന്റില്‍ പ്രസംഗിക്കുന്നതിനിടെ കുഴഞ്ഞുവീഴുകയായിരുന്നു. ഉടനെ ബഥനി ആസ്പത്രിയില്‍ എത്തിച്ചെങ്കിലും രക്ഷിക്കാനായില്ല. ഹൃദയാഘാതമായിരുന്നു മരണ കാരണം.
ഭൗതികദേഹം ഇന്നു രാത്രി തന്നെ ഷില്ലോങ്ങില്‍ നിന്ന് ഗുവാഹത്തിയിലെ സൈനിക ആസ്പത്രിയിലേയ്ക്ക് മാറ്റും. നാളെ പുലര്‍ച്ചെ ഡല്‍ഹിയിലേയ്ക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരും. സ്വദേശമായ രാമേശ്വരത്തായിരിക്കും അന്ത്യ കര്‍മങ്ങള്‍.
ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പതിനൊന്നാം രാഷ്ട്രപതിയായിരുന്നു (2002-7) ആണവ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനും ധിഷണാശാലിയായ ഗവേഷകനും എഴുത്തുകാരനും കവിയും തത്ത്വശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനുമൊക്കെയായിരുന്ന കലാം. 1931 ഒക്‌ടോബര്‍ 15ന് തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിലെ രാമേശ്വരത്തായിരുന്നു വള്ളക്കാരനായ ജൈനുല്‍ലാബുദ്ദീനിന്റെയും ആഷിയാമ്മയുടെയും മകനായി ജനനം. കക്കപെറുക്കി വിറ്റും പത്രം വിറ്റുമൊക്കെയാണ് കുട്ടിക്കാലത്ത് പഠനച്ചെലവ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്.
രാഷ്ട്രം ഭാരതരത്‌നയും പത്മഭൂഷനും പത്മവിഭൂഷണും നല്‍കി ആദരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. തമിഴില്‍ നിരവധി കവിതകള്‍ രചിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇന്ത്യ 2020, വിങ്‌സ് ഓഫ് ഫയര്‍, ഇഗ്‌നൈറ്റഡ് മൈന്‍ഡ്‌സ് എന്നിവയാണ് പ്രധാന കൃതികള്‍.

ടാറ്റാ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ഫണ്ടമെന്റല്‍ റിസര്‍ച്ചിന്റെ ഡയറക്ടര്‍ പ്രൊഫ. എം.ജി.കെ. മേനോനാണ് കലാമിന്റെ പ്രതിഭയെ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞത്. റോക്കറ്റ് എഞ്ചിനീയറാകാന്‍ കലാമിനെ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചതും മേനോനാണ്.

Abdul Kalam, who won popular acclaim as India's president from 2002 to
2007, died here on Monday evening after collapsing during a lecture at
the IIM-Shillong.
"Kalam is no more," Meghalaya Chief Secretary P.B.O. Warjri told IANS, shortly after the 83-year-old president breathed his last at the Bethany Hospital where he was taken to from the management school.
"The former president was delivering a lecture on 'liveable planet' when he suddenly collapsed," IIM-Shillong official Merlvin Mukhim told IANS.
John Sailo Ryntathiang, director of the Bethany Hospital, said Kalam was brought "almost dead".
"He is in a critical condition," he said earlier. "We are trying to revive the patient." But Kalam could not be saved.
One of India's most accomplished scientists, Kalam was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and Bharat Ratna in 1997.
Born on October 15, 1931 at Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu, Kalam went on to become one of the country's most celebrated aerospace and defence scientists.
He played a key role in India's nuclear test in 1998 when Atal Bihar Vajpayee was the prime minister.
"Very sad to hear that Dr APJ Abdul Kalam is no more. Nation has lost a real Bharat Ratna," he tweeted.
Kalam was admitted to Bethany Hospital in Shillong in a critical condition after he collapsed at the Indian Institute of Management-Shillong while delivering a lecture to the students of the B-school.
Bengaluru, July 27 (IANS) The sudden demise of former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was a tremendous loss to the country, Indian space agency chief A.S. Krishna Kumar said on Monday.
Kalam, 84, passed away in Meghalaya capital Shillong on Monday evening.
Krishna Kumar said the former president was a great personality and gentleman.
"It is extremely sad to know that Kalam is no more. He was such a great personality and gentleman. No words to express," the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman said.
Terming Kalam's contribution to the country and humanity as great and immense, Krishna Kumar said that even at the age of 84 years, the missile man was thinking about finding better solutions for the country's energy requirements.
Recalling his last meeting with Kalam at Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru a month ago, Krishna Kumar said he met Kalam on many occasions when he was president.
"Though I was in Ahmedabad as director of the space applications centre, I had many opportunities to meet and interact with Kalam sir at official functions and public events," he said.

We lost a great statesman, scientist, poet, philosopher friend of ordinary people and a think tank in the passing of A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India. It is a tremendous loss for the people of India and for his well wishers all over the world.

ശ്രീ അബ്ദുൽ കലാമിന് പ്രണാമം. സ്വതന്ത്ര ഇന്ത്യ കണ്ട ഏറ്റവും വലിയ മഹത് വ്യക്തിയെ ആണ് നമുക്ക് നഷ്ടമായത്. പൊതു മുതൽ കൊള്ള അടിക്കുന്ന ഏതു മുൻ മന്ത്രി മരിച്ചാലും പറ്റിയാൽ ഒന്നിൽ കൂടുതൽ ദിവസം അവധി നല്കുന്ന നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിൽ, താൻ മരിച്ചാൽ രാജ്യത്തിന്‌ പൊതു അവധി പ്രക്യാപിക്കരുതേ എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ ഏക വ്യക്തി ആയിരുന്നു ശ്രീ കലാം. സ്വർഗം എന്നൊന്ന് ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ അത് ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെ പോലുള്ളവര്ക് മാത്രം അവകാശപ്പെട്ടത്

The modern 'Father' of Mother India, Dr. Abdul Khalam left his earthly life. The Golden Crown awaits him in the Heaven for the best work he completed by serving the humanity with devotion, integrity and hard work.
What a glorious life and its conclusion! Millions of children all over the world who got inspired by his advice and thousands of volunteers worked with him in Vision 2020 are grieving at his demise.
Through his life , words and actions he showed the world how can we win the hearts of millions beyond caste creed or religious/political barriers. Let his preaching and words of wisdom help us to build a harmonious and prosperous world around us.
Success of VISION 2020 will be the true Tribute and Great Legacy as well as the true Monument for him. Let his soul rest in peace.
