Kunjuvareed Varkey Paranilam (96) passed away at 2.40 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore.

He moved to Baltimore in 1987 from Elinjipra, Chalakudy in Kerala with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 68 years of marriage, Mathirikutty Paranilam from Thadikaran family of Moozhikulam, Angamaly in Kerala; sons George Paranilam (Parnel), Skaria Paranilam and Jose Paranilam; daughters Thresiamma Aluvathingal, Moly Pereira, Florance Vithayathil and Shyni Augustine – their spouses being Mercy, Rejeena, Joseph, Peter, Sheeba, Tony and Fino - all have assumed their husbands’ last names as their last names.

All the family members are long time residents of Baltimore with George being the first, since 1974. Kunjuvareed is also blessed to have 18 grand children and 6 great grand children.

Kunjuvareed was born and raised on the bank of Chalakudy river in a rice farming traditional Syro Malabar Catholic family. He enjoyed boating and fishing in the river in his early years and was very active in Chalakudy Forane Catholic Church. In 1957, he moved his family to a village called Elinjipra 2 miles away and started his new life there. He was a generous farmer and cared for the neighbors and relatives in a very impressive way.

He would give up his family’s interest to take care of others wedding, funeral and other important family events spending his entire time for others when needed. His selfless service has won the hearts and mind of all people that have come in contact with him in his village. He had made it a point to visit all his relatives regularly taking his farm produce along.

Since immigrating to the United States in 1987 through George, Kunjuvareed became US citizen and brought all his other children and created a large family in Baltimore. He enjoyed gardening and family gatherings which were several per month while living with his son Jose.

He was in the hospital for ten days.
