LODI, New Jersey — A 22-year-old woman remains in critical condition after her car became wedged underneath a tractor-trailer in a crash on Route 80 Thursday morning, state police said.
NJ State Police conduct an accident investigation on I-80 westbound Thursday morning. A car and a tractor trailer collided in the left and center lane just before the Essex St exit, backing up traffic in both directions.
The woman’s Toyota Celica hit the tractor-trailer just before 6:40 a.m. in the westbound local lanes near Route 17, state police said. At some point, the car also hit a concrete barrier on the left shoulder of the highway, said Lt. Stephen Jones.
The woman in the Celica, whom police identified as Kuleena Kavunkal, was not responsive but was breathing; she was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with head injuries, Jones said.
